Previous AS media coursework analysis.

An important of producing anything is to do your research, so i decided to research previous AS Media coursework opening sequences.



In my opinion this a good opening sequence, the main aim of this is to set the mood for the film. However I don't think that this opening sequence gives us few information about the characters that are in the film.

The first sequence, that is comprised of the the workers daily routine is used to inform the audience that this character is a civil servant, this is because of his fluorescent yellow attire. I think that this has been used well because provides the audience with subtle information that will become apparent at some point during the film.

The worker then proceeds to eat his breakfast, during this, the audience can hear the diegetic news report from TV. This is used to give the audience the context of the film, murders. The sequence then shows the audience that the worker is headed towards a forest.

During the forests scene, a mother with a young child is seen to cross paths with the workman, during this scene several quick cuts and cuts to black are used. I really like this section as it creates tension and suspense. The camera then cuts back and we just see the the child's pram left on it's own. This gives us the impression that the worker has killed the mother. This scene then fades to black and the main film begins.

In conclusion, this is a good opening sequence and i like the quick cuts and editing that has been used to give the horror feel to the opening sequence.
